DADAROMA fans woke up to some shocking news the other day. The band had two pieces of disappointing news. One: their drummer Yusuke will leave the band. Two: DADAROMA, as a band, will go on hiatus. Their solo show on August 28 in Tokyo will be the final before these two events are set into motion. Read our translation of the official announcement below:
Thank you for your continuous support for DADAROMA.
We have come to the decision that, following our Shibuya O-WEST one-man performance on August 28, 2018, drummer Yusuke will retire from DADAROMA.
In addition, DADAROMA will enter an activity pause following the August 28 show.
Below is a comment from drummer Yusuke.
To all of those that love DADAROMA –
I’m truly sorry for making you sad with this sudden news.
After our show on August 28, I will leave DADAROMA and retire from the music scene.
The reason is that I’ve been diagnosed with incurable disease called dystonia in my upper right arm. It means I can no longer play drums.
Management, the band, and I thought over and over about ways in which it would be possible for me to stay in the band.
But, being a drummer, we couldn’t come up with a solution that I was able to accept. I felt that I would drag down the rest of the band if I continued on like this.
Ultimately, I decided that the decision I could best come to terms with is ending my drumming career in my current best condition.
I sincerely apologize to the band, staff, those in involved, and most of all – you.
There isn’t much time left, but I’m going to play drums as best as I can until the end.
I hope you’ll continue to support DADAROMA.
DADAROMA Dr. Yusuke
It’s always disappointing when a member leaves, but arguably even more disappointing when illness is the cause. If you’re in Japan over the next month, you’d best carve out some time in your schedule to see Yusuke one last time (and DADAROMA as a whole, for the time being).
According to the band’s homepage, there will be an announcement at the August 28 show. Hopefully it’s good news? We’ll let you know about what will happen to the band once more information is announced.
