Calmando Qual will be releasing a new maxi single [Negative Mustard] on July 6th.
Peeking in through the curtain, slimy eyeballs are watching your secret…
In the 10th year since their debut, Calmando Qual returns from the gothic horror world to their dark rock roots with a new release that combines surrealism and reality through their own stylish form of expression.
The maxi single brings their past and present together with a total of 4 tracks, including rearrangements of songs composed in the band’s early days.
[Negative Mustard] will cost 1500 yen and is limited to 1000 copies.
Also, the single will be available for pre-sale during their 10th anniversary oneman show at Ikebukuro Chop on June 3rd.

On October 2009 The Candy Spooky Theater had this announcement and now there’s good news about the promised full-length album. The band has already released a compilation CD, but this time tracks will be new.
The album is called 「SPOOKYWONDERLAND / スプーキーワンダーランド」 and the release date is October 1st. It will cost 2,800 yen.

VA for Starwave Records

We talked about Darkest Labyrinth releasing a collective CD featuring bands from the label over here. Now Starwave Records is going to be releasing a label VA on June 30th.
To commemorate its formation in 2010, Starwave Records will release a compilation album containing 7 exclusive takes of songs by the label’s artists! A live event will be held on June 13 at Ikebukuro LIVE INN ROSA to commemorate the release of the compilation.

Suicide Ali will be featured on the cover of the new Risknote that will be coming out in May. You can already preorder the issue at the label’s store over here. The magazine is only $15.00 and will include interviews with Kiwamu, LIX., THE SOUND BEE HD, the fool, DELUHI, Luzmelt, Calmando Qual and many more! The group also has a new look which is pretty much made of cool. Again – note the accessories are of Ryonai’s designs!

Kiwamu added 2 more bands to the new label’s line up! First off he officially moved Suicide Ali over to the new label, up until now they were featured with Darkest Labyrinth. He signed on Calmando Qual and a disbanded band called Variable Messiah. Reason for Variable Messiah to be featured on Starwave Records, is that the label is releasing a best of for the band! Show casing their songs from 2000-2004. The release comes out on May 12th.
Variable Messiah is a disbanded band that was around from 2000 to 2004 and the members include Goshi and Hiroshi of Suicide Ali, Tachi ex project EDEN, Hiroki ex Oto-oni, and Aki ex 73shiki. They are also having their one day revival which we talked about over here.

After a very long break in releasing new music, Calmando Qual will release a brand-new maxi-single entitled 「Doors」. It will go on sale on the 26th of May for 1500 yen and contain 4 tracks:

It will be limited to 1000 copies only so make sure to buy it and support the band! The CD will be pre-sold at the band’s live on the 13th of May. Anyway, here is the single description according to the official MySpace:
Calmando Qual’s first maxi single since resuming activities portrays a rock show with “Theatrical Rock Parade” as its concept. The work is an exquisite balance of vivid visuals, melancholic melodies shifting and varying within a dark retro ambiance, and the cruelty and beauty of the stories illustrated by the lyrics. Though its sound is more catchy and easy on the ears than their previous works, it retains the intersection of stillness and movement in the band’s technical sound and their characteristic powerful arrangements, with each song composed of many varying facets.
It sounds intriguing, doesn’t it? Anyway, here is their recent look, which is totally different from their previous ones. What do you think about it?

Calmando Qual’s OHP revamped

Since Calmando Qual announced that they would be doing activities again and seemed to be tinkering with their OHP, we have been keeping watch on the website for any sort of change. Well, thankfully it seems that the band has finally gotten their OHP updated to feature a bit of the old and the new Calmando Qual. One of the cool features of their OHP is the photo section, which takes you to the Flickr page of the photographer for their live in Helsinki. It should also be noted that the band’s Myspace features live recordings from various lives they did throughout 2009 during their revival.

Yo yo yo, lets talk about oversea lives! Did you know that Calmando Qual (at the time I believe they were known as Twisted Clock) has played in different countries? Including Spain where they have played at an event with a Spanish visual band named Pinku Jisatsu.
Pink Jisatsu has also played with other Japanese vk artists like HAGAKURE and ∀NTI FEMINISM. You can check out the Spanish visual band’s first pv over here. Any of our Spanish readers know of them?

With the rise of Calmando Qual returning and becoming active again (their first revival live was last week) – Tak had been playing support for the band The Sound Bee HD, and thanks to Valerie for emailing us links to the band! The band features ex Media Youth vocalist – Daisuke. The group have been around since last August but started to pick up more lives this summer! They will be performing at the -DARK SIDE ROCKERS SPECIAL- with SPEED-iD on August 22nd. Add their myspace here.

Introducing Calmando Qual support drummer, MAYA

Since Sio leaving the band and going through frequent name changes, Calmando Qual has taken on support drummer Maya. He does double duty, working with both Calmando and Antikythera – posts about which can be found at his newly opened blog Caffe Maya. He has also started his own Myspace located here.
Support or not, if this means Calmando will start putting out new material, I am very excited!!

Calmando Qual restarts!

There have been a lot of rumors swirling around about Calmando Qual disbanding but quite the opposite is happening – they’re restarting! And while they have done a few performances in Europe, it seems that this is an official restart in Japan as well. They will be participating in a live event presented by MUNIMUNI on June 18th titled ‘CRY FOR THE MOON GIG’ which so far will feature performances by Calmando Qual, MUNIMUNI and ルーシー(lucy). We’ll be sure to keep you updated on the restart of Calmando Qual.
