Before we start, don’t forget that we want to hear your ideas! We’ll try our best to incorporate them and it’s definitely more fun to have input. You can submit your ideas or catch up on previous weeks (or the idea in general) by checking out the S-T Survivor Page!
The second survivor voted off Mago Island was Sono from the Blue Tribe. Although he didn’t do anything in particular to upset anyone, Kenzi was growing irritated at his efforts to constantly find him. The shelter builders (Reiya, Mitsu and Kazuma), still strong on their pact, vowed not to vote each other off. And since Kazuma and Mizuki bonded while cleaning, Kazuma pulled Mizuki into the pact as well.
It was a rough week for the Blue Tribe, as they felt deflated from their previous defeats. However, they were determined to overcome their differences and did their best to get along.
The Reward Challenge
It’s hard to find comforts in the forest that we are accustomed to having, so this week our survivors are playing for a few basic comforts from home. Pillows, blankets and foam mattresses so that they can get a good night’s sleep.
The game is a quite simple one; many of them even commented on how they used to play it in the school yard. That game is Keep Away. It’s the best two out of three, and for each round, one tribe member from each tribe, is selected to be ‘in the middle’. Three members from the opposing tribe are given a breakable ball, and must keep the ball away from the person in the center, and can NOT break it.
Everyone took their place for round one, Kyotaro screaming ‘fuck’ as he marched to the middle of the game area. Mitsu, Reiya, and Kenzi stood around Kyotaro, waiting in anticipation. They all nodded to one another, determined not to be the losers this week. Their prey was Kyotaro, the had to keep the ball from his clutches. At the same time, the opposing tribe took their place. Kaya, Asanao, and Saga gathering as Kazuma nervously walked to the center. How did he get stuck doing this? He really didn’t want to be the one trying to get the ball. Kaya, Asanao, and Saga gave one another a determined gaze, rather cocky from being so victorious last week.
The game began rather smoothly, both men in the center trying desperately to get the ball. Kazuma couldn’t help but wish it were Reiya trying to get the ball. Yes, Reiya should be the one suffering this evil fate and not him. Kazuma would much rather be the one trying to keep the ball away from someone. Kyotaro wasn’t thrilled about the situation either, thinking Kaya should take his place.
Things were looking up for the Blue Tribe, bad judgement on Kaya’s part causing Kazuma to easily knock the ball to the ground. This resulted in a little victory dance while Kyotaro stood in the distance flipping the bird.
Round two soon followed, Meguru and Mizuki both marching to their positions as the ones trying to get the ball. Reiya, Kazuma, and Vict gathered around Meguru as Jin, Tomozo, and Mamo did the same to Mizuki. The signal to begin caused both teams to start activities, quickly tossing the both balls to their teammates in attempt to keep them away from Meguru and Mizuki.
Mamo let out his war cry, wind blowing gently through his hair as he tossed the ball towards Tomozo with a new found determination. Meguru, facing the other tribe, heard the war cry, feeling a surge of energy coursing through his very soul. “WE WILL WIN” he screamed, leaping in the air and grabbing the ball in a manner that would make any NBA player proud. This sealed the deal, Meguru throwing the ball to the ground, thus breaking it and winning the round for the red team.
Round three would be the one that determined the fate of the challenge. Which Tribe managed to grab this one would win the prize. Vict and Saga made their way towards their spots for the game, giving one another competitive glares from their positions. Jin, Tomozo, and Kyotaro surrounded Vict; all three preparing for battle. The same occured for the opposing tribe, Saga mumbling under his breath as he stared down Kenzi. The game ended as quickly as it began, Vict gaining the victory for the blue team.
The Immunity Challenge
The Blue Tribe was pumped from winning the reward and the Red Tribe was set on winning the next challenge. Both tribes marched onto the battle field, tension rising in the air.
This week’s immunity challenge involves strength, balance and endurance. The tribes must choose one person to be the bucket bearer. They will stand on a platform in the water. The remaining tribe members fill buckets, carrying them two at a time across a balance beam to the platform. The buckets are then taken by the opposing tribe member, and placed on the bucket bearer. They don’t want to spill any, because they want the bucket bearer of the other tribe to be as loaded down as possible. When all the buckets are gone, it’s a battle of endurance as the bearers stay to see who can stand the longest, loaded with buckets of water.
Jin and Tomozo were picked to sit out this challenge, and neither one seemed to mind. Both men sat comfortably in the distance, talking to one another as they cheered for their tribe members. The red tribe had Asanao holding the buckets while Kaya was assigned to loading them on the pole. The blue tribe had Reiya assigned to the task of bucket bearer. Kazuma was the one that had the honor of loading the buckets on the pole Reiya held.
This contest began with both teams off to a sturdy start. Mizuki had trouble keeping his balance, slipping from the balance beam not once, but three times and had to keep starting over. Mitsu had trouble as well, but tribe members were impressed by Kenzi’s skill at the balance beam. He didn’t even spill a single drop of water as he went across. The Red Tribe was on their game that day, as Mamo, Saga and Meguru sped across with amazing agility making Reiya loaded down fast. His arms were begnning to ache, as the Blue Tribe was still carrying buckets over to place on Aasnao’s shoulders. Eventually, both tribes were out of buckets and they all stood around their team mate, cheering them on. However, the immunity challenge would once again go to the red tribe as Reiya’s shoulders gave in and he went toppling into the water. The red tribe celebrated while Kenzi and Kazuma called Reiya weak. Reiya proceeded to tell Kazuma that it was easy for him to say, he had the simplest task.
Random Happenings Back at Base Camp
Red Tribe
・ Although they were somewhat disappointed the lost the reward challenge and therefore the luxury of a comfortable the slleep, the Red Tribe celebrated another week of immunity by creating a giant feast! Everyone chips in and spirits are riding high.
・Mamo, craving some alcohol after being on the island without any, decides that he will try to make his own… out of taro. Therefore, he enlists Jin and Kyotaro to help him gather them in the forest. Mamo isn’t quite sure how exactly to make anything out of the taro, so he begins his experiments. Testing them on other tribe members. Unfortunately, the only results thus far are upset stomachs and bad mouth taste.
・Things can get rather boring on the island, enough to drive a person crazy. To keep distracted from this fact Kaya, Meguru, and Tomozo decide to play a game. The trio form a circle, whispering among themselves while stealing glances at Asanao and Saga. This serves to make the pair very nervous.
・Asanao stumbles around camp, looking nervous as he tries to locate his sexy hat collection. They’re gone, all of them! The precious hats he spent so much time making. Looking around camp he notices that Tomozo, Kaya, and Meguro are missing.
・Saga decides to take a walk, eventualy finding his way to the beach. Yawning as he made his way through the sand and towards the water. Such a beautiful day, the sun was bright, the birds were chirping, and there were pieces of green leaf hats floating in the water. Wait….what the hell?
Blue Tribe
・ The blue tribe may have lost the immunity challenge, but they won the reward challenge! All were in good spirits as they divided the pillows, blankets, and foam mattresses evenly.
・Around lunch time Kenzi was missing yet again. Vict, having lost his Kenzi search partner, recruits Mizuki for the assignment. All the while Vict couldn’t help but wonder ‘why does he keep wandering off?’
・Mitsu decides to go on a hunt for some fruit and once again finds himself wandering deep into the forest, eventually stumbling upon the outskirts of the red tribe’s camp. Blinking as he spotted Mamo and Kyotaro heading in his direction. Should he hide? Should he confront them? Taking a deep breath he steps forward, presenting the pair with a rather interesting proposition.
・Mizuki goes about his usual task as tribe maid, cleaning up after every meal. He continues to store away left overs and Kazuma eventually discovering his secret. Curses, why did Kazuma have to start helping him? Deciding that he didn’t really didn’t need Kazuma telling on him…he offers to do 70% of the cleaning while sharing 50% of the leftovers with Kazuma.
・ After hearing their names appear in tribal council both times, Vict and Reiya sit down and discuss what they can do to swing the game in their favour. They start by making a pact — together until the end. They wonder who else can they convince to join their group and decide to make their first recruit Kenzi. He’s always running off anyways, so he’s never actually involved in the at camp drama…
Tribal Council
Once again, the Blue tribe lost the immunity challenge and therefore one of them will have to be sent home. Don’t forget to cast your vote! You can find the Survivor poll on the sidebar to your right. Who do you think should be off the island?

Survivor – Week Two
26
Oct, 2008
The first survivor voted off Mago Island was Hizaki from the Blue Tribe. Despite his efforts at the Reward Challenge, Hizaki made waves with fellow tribe members when he criticized the shelter on an aesthetic level, which Reiya, Mitsu and Kazuma had worked hard to build.
The three shelter builders made a pact to vote for Hizaki which they all fulfilled.
Our survivors are a week into their stay on the island. Winning the reward challenge, the Blue Tribe has been eating quite well as they can easily make fires to cook food and boil water. The Red Tribe, although glad to win immunity, has been struggling with making a fire and has yet to be successful at doing so which is causing some tension between the members.
The Reward Challenge
This week the boys are playing for fishing gear and a bamboo fishing boat! Their challenge is quite difficult this week. First, as a team, they have to carry a large wooden snake (which is on poles; each member gets one pole) through a maze. The snake is both long and heavy and cannot be dragged; it must be carried. Once they make it through the maze, one member of the tribe has to run to the post, grab the key and unlock the gate. Unlocking the gate also lowers the draw bridge which the snake must be carried across onto the assembly platform. However, before they reach the platform there is one more gate which must be unlocked. Once on the platform, each member has to find the hole that fits their pole — just like a puzzle. After all the pieces are in correctly, the snake will be able to stand on it’s own and each tribe member must cross the finish line. The first team with every member over the line wins.
The Red tribe has one extra member, so they choose Saga to sit this one out.
The game started out with a few issues; but both tribes were racing neck in neck through the twists and turns of the maze. Tripping over his own two feet, Meguru fell, scraping his knee on a maze wall. However, that didn’t stop the Red tribe and eventually they were in the lead. Mitsu lost his way in the maze, the man taking off his shoe and throwing it at the dead end. One shoe less, he spent a few moments debating his situation, knowing his team would be enraged. However, he eventually decided to do a U-turn and try another route. He could always blame Kazuma for this, right? Yes, somehow Kazuma would be to blame for him getting lost.
With the Blue tribe lost in the maze the Red tribe pushed ahead, sending Kyotaro to unlock the first gate, they made it over the draw bridge. After much frustration, the Blue tribe reached the first gate. They sent Mizuki out for the key, but he failed to help their situation, fumbling with the lock.
The Red tribe reached the assembly platform in record time, but both Asanao and Jin struggled to find the right holes for their poles giving the Blue tribe some time to catch up. Despite their valiant efforts, Sono was the last man to make it across the finish line, sealing the blue tribe’s fate. The Red tribe had won the reward challenge.
The Immunity Challenge
After their defeat at the reward challenge, the Blue tribe was determined to win — they did not want to have to send anyone home this week!
For their challenge this week each team must send ONE MEMBER AT A TIME down the beach, into the water and out to the crate marked with their tribe colour. Once the first member has reached the crate and is touching it, the second can make their journey down the beach. Once all members are out at the crate, one must dive down and unlock it. Together, the tribe must swim with the crate back to shore and drag it across the finish line. The first tribe back wins.
The stakes are high for Red. Not only is this an immunity challenge, but if they win they also get flint so that they too can make a fire.
Things were going smoothly, each tribe running down the beach one by one and swimming out to the crate in the water. Meguru, who was chosen to sit out for Red, was on the beach watching….and complaining. Curse his stupid knee, curse hurting himself. He could see the others smiling as they played their little game. He wanted to do his part and show them he was indispensable. He couldn’t complain too much, his team was in the lead.
Saga was extra strong in this challenge, having both the luxury of sitting out in the first game and being a good swimmer. Of course there were moments where the members of his tribe were screaming ‘I’m drowning, I’m drowning!’ while they others screamed ‘swim damn it’. Kaya especially was having trouble staying afloat, but he fought his hardest against the water; a noble effort noticed by all tribe members.
Sadly the blue tribe was full of issues on this day. They eventually lost, Kenzi stating that Vict was a slow swimmer while Reiya wasn’t even thinking about the game. Reiya seemed to be in his own world, though the other members didn’t dare to ask what the hell he was thinking. Some things are just better left unknown. They did get their crate back to the shore, but the sand proved to be their most trying obstacle.
Random Happenings Back at Base Camp
The Red Tribe
・ Upon seeing his reflection in the water, Saga notices that chunks of his hair have mysteriously gone missing. He runs his hands through his hair numerous times to make sure he isn’t balding. Mamo and Kyotaro watch him and snicker.
・ Kaya tries to comfort Saga, telling him it isn’t that bad. Tomozo informs Saga that Kaya is lying and it looks hideous. Saga decides that he will get Tomozo back for his words. Sure, he was being honest…but he didn’t want to hear it put so bluntly.
・ With their new fishing gear Jin and Asanao decide to head out in the boat to fish. They both wanted some time away from the hair situation and decide to make themselves useful. They are quite successful and return with a net filled with little fish.
・ Wanting to prove himself, Meguru takes the flint and is the first to make an awesome fire. Being skilled in the culinary area, he also takes it upon himself to cook the fish that Jin and Asanao had caught. Kaya helps by elegantly plating the food on large leaves.
・ Due to the hair incident, Mamo and Kyotaro have a growing friendship. Feeling guilty about Saga’s hair, they take inspiration from Asanao and make a leaf hat to hide Saga’s poor hair cut. Saga is touched (he doesn’t know they cut it to begin with) and Asano grows jealous of the sexy hat feeling frustrated with his own collection.
The Blue Tribe
・ The Blue tribe is low on spirits after suffering two defeats and each member takes it out on another. Insults fly and a few punches are thrown. In the end each of the boys takes some alone time to cool off.
・Mitsu, being the most picked on for getting stuck in the maze, wanders off into the forest. He walks for nearly three hours and spots a member from the Red tribe through the trees. Unsure what to do, he takes off back towards the Blue camp, keeping the path he took in mind.
・ Realizing how close he was to getting voted off the island at tribal council, Reiya makes an effort to make up with everyone. He continues to be the designed fire maker and gathers fire making supplies in the forest. Kazuma joins him and the two talk about their shelter builders pact.
・ After the fight, Kenzi takes off to his secret location which he has escaped to numerous times in the past week. When it’s time to eat, with a heavy sigh Sono and Vict go out searching for him. Why does he run off like that and where does he go? Along the way they too decide to create a pact .
・ Mizuki is somehow voted as the member who has to clean up after meals. He does so, begrudgingly, storing any leftover food and hiding it for himself. Feeling bad about the tribe being so demanding, Kazuma decides to help but fails to notice Muzki’s squirreling.

Survivor : Week One
18
Oct, 2008
First, a note — We love the suggestions that were sent in! If you don’t see your suggestion used this week, DON’T WORRY. We’re not ignoring you; we just can’t use all the good ideas at once.
Our castaways have had a busy week since they first arrived on the island! Don’t forget, you can always check out their profiles on the Survivor Page.
Now before we get to our recap, there have been a few inquiries as to what exactly Survivor is. The point of the game is to be the last man standing – outwit, outlast and outplay your competition. Each week two challenges will take place: a reward challenge where survivors win comforts and an immunity challenge. Immunity guarantees they’ll be around for another week.
Onto the recap!
First and most importantly, the challenges.
The Reward Challenge
At the reward challenge this week the tribes were playing for flint. Flint is a hard stone which is used for starting fire – very useful back at base camp.
The challenge spans three rounds and sends one tribe mate from each tribe to a pole which is located across a patch of sand. Two members from each of the opposing tribes must by force, get the person off the pole and drag them across the sand pit and over the finish line. The team that wins two or more of the three rounds wins the reward.

How did this challenge turn out? Well, the results may surprise you. For the first round the red team had Jin on the pole with Vict and Mizuki (Blue) trying pull him off. The blue team had Mitsu on the pole with Tomozo and Saga (Red) trying to drag him away. Both men clung desperately, nails digging into the earth as they were slowly dragged towards the line. How did this round end? Jin lost out to Vict and Mizuki, earning the glory of first dragged across the line.
The second round wasn’t much different, this time it being Meguru (Red) versus Kazuma and Sono (Blue). There was also Reiya (Blue) versus Asanao and Kyotaro (Red). As the battle raged on, Kyotaro and Asanao stumbled upon a slight problem. What was that? Well in Reiya’s attempt to keep away from the finish line he kicked Asanao. Was this the end? NEVER! He raised his fist high in the air, screaming SPARTA as they continued on….winning the round.
Now the final round, the one that determines the fate of our challenge. We have Mamo (red) versus Hizaki and Kenzi (blue) on one side. On the other we have Mizuki (Blue) versus Kaya and Tomozo (Red). The battle was on, Mamo held on for dear life, but luck was on the blue tribe’s side. Mamo looked up to the sky and cursed god’s name as he felt himself dragged to defeat. Where was our lovely Mizuki? Screaming various curse words while both arms and legs hugged the pole. Tomozo and Kaya sighed in defeat, the man had become one with the pole.
The winner? The Blue tribe. The boys cheered in delight, accepted their flint and headed back to camp. The Red tribe frowned and Asanao nursed his wound.
Immunity Challenge
This challenge determines which team will have to send one member home. For this week, the tribes have to send one member at a time to struggle through an obstacle course. At the end, there are four tiles (a set for each tribe). The member has to bring the tile back to their tribe. Once all four tiles are back, they can be connected to form a riddle. The remaining four members must work together to solve the riddle. The answers to the riddle will be a combination to open a locked chest. Inside the chest will reveal a knife they can use to cut the rope to raise their flag. The first team to raise their flag wins.
Click pictures to enlarge.
Who were the runners for the Red Tribe? None other than Tomozo, Asanao, Kyotaro, and Saga. The runners for the Blue Tribe? Kazuma, Sono, Reiya, and Mizuki. The problem solvers for the Red Tribe were Mamo, Meguru, Jin, and Kaya. The Blue Tribe had Mitsu, Vict, Kenzi, and Hizaki.
How did all of this turn out? All the teams did an awesome job but only one of them came out on top. The winner of this was the Red Tribe. They all cheered and Mamo decided to keep the knife, stuffing in down his pants while no one was looking. What about the Blue Tribe? Mitsu fell off the bridge and Vict got tangled up in the rope ladder. Hizaki and Kenzi both managed to make it back without a problem. All the pieces made it back…but not in time.
Can you solve the puzzle? Leave a comment if you’ve got the answer.
Random Happenings Back at Base Camp
Red Tribe
・ After losing the reward challenge, Mamo and Kyotaro unsuccessfully try to make fire using sticks, leaves and a bit of Saga’s hair. Saga fails to notice the missing hair which was cut using Mamo’s knife while he was asleep.
・ Starving, Jin and Meguru head off in search for fruit. They bond in the process and come back with a reasonable selection.
・ Using the given supplies, Saga, Tomozo and Asanao construct the tribe’s shelter. Kaya supervises.
・ Kaya decorates the shelter with the flowers he’s found near the base camp.
・ Missing his hat collection, Asanao begins constructing a variety of leaf hats.
Blue Tribe
・ Using the supplies, Reiya, Mitsu, and Kazuma build their shelter. Not satisfied with their craftsmanship, Hizaki criticizes the shelter for being ugly.
・ While taking a nap, the shelter collapses on Mizuki. Luckily enough, he comes out with nothing but a small bruise or two.
・ Kenzi runs off and hides somewhere. After he has been missing for more than half a day, Sono goes out in search of him.
・ Vict decides to help in the search, collecting fruit along the way. They eventually locate Kenzi and force him back to camp. He claims he was hiding from the sunlight.
・ Reiya constructs the tribe’s first fire, which Kazuma uses to make a pot of rice. With the rice turning out oh-so-delicious, the tribe names Kauzma as chief rice cooker.
