Introducing Redel

![]()
Being the queen of obscure, under-appreciated visual bands, I bring you another band worth checking out. Redel (リデル) has been around since 2006 (once under the name Re.:.Del) but hasn’t exactly been making waves, perhaps because their music style isn’t what Japan is used to — or ready for.

Vocal: 綺音 (Ayane) [→ Rydell+Noghte → Serpentine†Ghost]
Guitar: Mu-min
Bass: t93 [→ Radical MiMiC → GIGA VIRUS → nicht]
Redel’s website refers to their work as “exhibitions of monochrome nightmares full of hatred”, but a snippet from closet child CD, which vends their latest release, more concretely calls them a “90s-style hatred dark-style” band. Their website states:
Existing on the other side of the ordinary, the backbone of taboo “negative emotions” of “grief”, “enmity”, “mental anguish”, “abnormal lust”, “hatred”, “rage”, “lies”, “death” held by each member is carried by the mass of sound consisting of NW, ALTERNATIVE, HR/HM, GOTHIC, INDUSTRIAL, NOISE etc. and spat out; the “black existence” of Redel has been established…
The fact that they’ve played with bands such as Calmando Qual and My heaven’s luck sisters may tell you a thing or two; they fit right in. Somewhat reminiscent of Aliene Maφriage but with a generally slower-tempo repertoire, Redel easily falls into the category of industrial music. Their performances are chilling; Ayane has a powerful presence behind the microphone stand, Mu-min energetically thrashes about the stage, and the seemingly-docile t93 turns startling when he starts swinging heavy metal chains around the stage. (Watch out!)
The band put out their first mini album in December, which is also the first release available outside of their live house shows (you can pick it up at Closet Child CD).
PALE ACUTE MOON
¥1,500
Released December 20, 2011
Includes a 12-page booklet.01:黒 (Kuro)
02:グラマラス (Glamorous)
03:Distorted Room
04:Pale Acute Moon
05:enslave
06:序幕 (Jomaku)
07:ゴウスト (Ghost)
Though their MySpace has gone neglected since 2010, they still have a couple of songs up for the curious. I recommend it!

Introducing Eins bei Vodka
15
Dec, 2011
![]()
The first time I read the name of this band it was on a ticket for an indies live I was going to and I’ll admit that it made me chuckle. In fact, even after seeing them perform, the idea of the band still makes me chuckle to myself. Eins bei Vodka (アインスベイウォッカ) is a modern band straight out of the concept of ’90s of visual kei; though they only formed recently in May of 2010 and are still quite unknown, they have quite a lot to give to an audience of visual kei fans longing for the old days.
Vocal Histo
Guitar Mei
Bass zen
It was hard to place my finger on exactly what they were going for when Mei sauntered in belly dancing on a stage with an assortment of Egyptian-themed prop miniatures, such as Anubis and pyramids. Though the band has a semi-German name, their costume, performance, and even musical themes heavily reflect their Egyptian and Arabian influences. On their website you can read background stories for the members, something reminiscent of MALICE MIZER in theatrics and plot.
Eins bei Vodka describes their work as
Heavy, profound music to prod at the core part of a human being which attempts all its actions for selfish purposes.
Constructing a peculiar world view with a stance which pursues nothingness and sadness.
The first thing one might notice about the music, however, is Histo’s incredible range. In a single song he can hit beautiful high notes, sing enchanting melodies, and scream and growl his head off.
Currently, they have no lives scheduled, but have recently self-released their third single, “jastina”, which is available at their lives for a mere 100 yen.
This isn’t a band you’ll be able to YouTube, but if the idea interests you, they’ve made it quite easy to keep up with them online via Facebook and Twitter. There’s also an assortment of audio clips you can hear on their Myspace.

Meet the BUCK-TICK of our generation:
(Click-through to the other member’s picture here; potentially NSFW content in the background!)
Vocal 荒瀬 大 (Arase Dai) | → LANDSCAPE
Bass 坂倉 亮 (Sakakura Ryo) | → LANDSCAPE
dieS has been enjoying moderate success in the underground of the visual kei scene since around 2005. Their music is generally uptempo and clearly reminiscent of one of their major influences, the aforementioned BUCK-TICK. Background information about them from a reliable source is nearly impossible to track down in either English or Japanese, but you may learn a thing or two (true or not!) by poking around fans’ blogs. If you’d like to give them a try, you can watch a few live clips on their official YouTube channel.
dieS’s schedule is chock-full of exciting happenings for the end of the year, including an appearance on Orodoku TV on November 22 at 8:00 pm (which you will be able to watch live here!). They’ve also just released a second pressing of their first album from 2009, 『ANGEL JESUS dieS in EDEN』, which had previously been frustratingly impossible for fans to get their hands on. It’s available from ZEALLINK, closet child and Like an Edison.
『ANGEL JESUS dieS in EDEN』
Track list:
1.in my head
2.侵入 (Shinyuu)
3.分身 (Bunshin)
4.fucker
5.high-裸-night (high-hadaka-night)

7.死界 (Shikai)
8.新生児 (Shinseiji)
9.幻影 (Genei)

Introducing Warugaki
8
Nov, 2011
![]()
Do you remember a certain infamous rear-end from My heaven’s luck sisters? The vocalist from the ex-three-piece band is back with a new group, ワルガキ (Warugaki), which began activities on September 19th this year.
Vocal 間宮 望 (Mamiya Nozomi)| Rinda [as 望 (Nozomi)] → My heaven’s luck sisters [as Boye/Boy]
Guitar YUKITO | ギズモ (Gizumo) [as ゆきと (Yukito)]
Guitar ワタル (Wataru) | マステマ†ドルキーム (Mustema†Dorcheme) [as Wataru]
Bass たぁ (Taa) | メテム (Metem) [as レイト/ヒラツカタカノブ (Reito/Hiratsuka Takanobu)] → くれ×リック (Cler×ic) [as たかぴぃ。 (Takapii)] → ギズモ (Gizmo) [vocal] → ClubRichard [guitar]
Drums 岡部 佑生 (Okabe Yuuki) | Cuartet [as 悠生 (Yuuki)] → キラー (Killer) [support] → 乙女道 (Otomedou) [support] → グレイシア (Glacier) [as 佑生 (Yuuki)] → ClubRichard [as 蓮池佑生 (Hasuike Yuuki)]
Don’t let the photograph fool you. With questionable lyrics and a vocalist who puts on performances in backless shorts — and nothing but backless shorts — this potentially controversial band has already begun to establish a “sexual harassment” theme. Though they’ve only played a handful of shows so far, their set tends to open with a different short video depicting some kind of debachery or another.
Their first single 「知ったかぶりのBaby Girl」 (“Shittakaburi no Baby Girl”) has already dropped as a part of a three-month consecutive release campaign, and lucky attendees to their second live were also able to pick up a distribution-only copy of 「企業舎弟」(“Kigyou Shatei“), otherwise unreleased. Both CDs contain only the title track.
「MoGuRO」, their next single, comes out on November 26th at their live at Ikebukuro CYBER, followed by a third in December.
