random-fact-of-the-day

I’d like to start off today’s random fact by wishing all S-T’s readers a very happy New Year!

We’ll be posting messages from some of the staff members tomorrow, so make sure you look out for that!

I decided I should get today’s random fact posted early so that I can fully enjoy the festivities of tonight. Ah, New Years. How I love you.

Anyways, today’s fact is about Juri from DELUHI. In a questionnaire, he was asked which he liked better, a telephone call or to receive mail? His answer simply put: Mail is beautiful.

He has a point. There’s nothing like getting a nice piece of mail.

review-deluhi-jagannath

Well it’s that time again. Time to review another single that is. Though I post reviews every so often on my blog, I’ve decided to try and review releases here on S-T more often.

Today we’re bringing you a review of the newest single from the delightful and obviously metalcore influenced, DELUHI.

2008.12.31 – CD Single – BMCD-005 – ¥1,680

I like DELUHI because they are hard and melodic without suffering from the usual case of poor musicianship. These guys know how to write. The guys of DELUHI use their skills to their advantage by adding in subtle details which greatly increase the listening pleasure. At least in most of their singles. I can’t say the same for this one though!

Track 1. リヴィングデッド
(LIVING DEAD)

This song starts with a simple guitar line backed up by echoes of ambient sounds. At the 0:21 mark the band launches into a hard grinding riff accompanied by delicious bursts of double bass courtesy of Sujk. By the time Juri begins singing, we’ve returned to the simple line and ambient sounds. The song maintains this pattern throughout most of the song with slight variations. While the chorus grants us the pleasure of Juri switching between growling and a clean projecting voice, the solo is fairly simple, stepping away from showcasing Leda’s superb guitar skills. However the outro solo is a little more interesting than the mid-song one. Overall the feeling the song gives off is that of a rising tension, but it never really seems to release this tension or give any closure. While not being extremely memorable, this song definitely mixes metalcore sound with more familiar vk elements like the strings. It could’ve been much more memorable had they altered the song structure some more.

Track 2. Rebel:Sicks, Shadow:Six

This track starts right off the bat and launches into a vk riff I swear I’ve heard in at least 8 other songs. Juri does some…rapping type deal. This really reminds me of something the GazettE would do. It feels like they borrowed an old GazettE song and released it under their name, in my opinion. Most of the song is growls and forgettable riffing. I can barely remember how this song sounds just moments after shutting it off.

Overall Rating: 4.5/10

Summary: While DELUHI has a great amount of talent, this single falls short of producing the quality music they’re known for. Pass on this one, and hope the next will be better.

Well that’s all for the first review! Any feedback or suggestions on what I should review next can be mailed to kyourei[AT]gmail.com or posted in the comments. Thanks for reading!

random-fact-of-the-day

So I was browsing some band’s sites and profiles today and the members of MoNoLith all answered an interesting question that I’d never seen before in profiles, which was “Who’s your favourite character from history?”

Here are what they had to say.
Ryu - Ganjin (a Chinese monk who helped to spread Buddhism in Japan)
Keita - Umm…
Shuuhei - Pope Boniface VIII, Wanyan Aguda (First emporer of the Jin Dynasty)
Takafumi - Napoleon
HAYATO - Vasco da Gama

I’ve been trying to think about who my favourite histortical person is… but I thnk I’ll need some more time. In the meantime, let me know who yours is!

yoshiki-evil-mastermind

Thanks to Nicky for sending this in. I can’t believe I didn’t notice this on the main REPO! site but if you click on THE MUSIC – then click on SESSIONS you can see Yoshiki and the REPO! gang recording at his house! Other folks who worked on the music described the studio as a “kicked ass home studio” and you can see Yoshiki chilling there while the main actress is recording! The director was right, Yoshiki did open his home up to the gang and really was there for the process. Seriously how cool is that?

Here is a screen of the clip but go and watch it on the site! (I’m such a whore for this movie LOL ><;;;;)

random-fact-of-the-day

Today’s random fact made me chuckle when I read it! That’s right. I’m a chuckler.

Ryu-ka, who’s the bassist for Halienju has an interesting way of spending a day off. When asked what he does when he gets a break, he answered:

I mistake the holiday train schedule, for the weekday schedule, and end up riding past my stop -> (which leads to) unfocused anger

That would fill me with rage as well. So I can’t really blame him.
