After a long run in the rumor mill, the facts have finally come to light!
sukekiyo is a 5-member project band based in Tokyo. It’s headed by Kyo of DIR EN GREY, and he is said to have hand-picked each of the members to be in this side project himself. In October, the official website for this mysterious opening act of SUGIZO’s December 29th show at SHIBUYA-AX opened. It featured only a photo of the band members’ obscured silhouettes and some information on merchandise – nothing more. They played two secret shows in the big city before finally revealing all of the details, wowing the audience with their so-called “disposable sound.”
The audience in attendance for both shows said it had a distinctly different sound from DIR EN GREY, but I guess we’ll just have to hear for ourselves – they have a pretty nice New Year’s surprise for us. Let’s introduce the members first, though.
On vocals we obviously have 京 (Kyo) of DIR EN GREY; on guitar, 匠 (Takumi) of RENTRER EN SOI and 9GOATS BLACK OUT’s UTA; kannivalism’s YUCHI on bass; and, also from RENTRER EN SOI, 未架 (Mika) on drums. With this kind of illustrious line-up, their sound is something definitely checking out!
You can do that starting on January 1st. Their first music video, “aftermath,” will be available in 111 countries worldwide on iTunes. While the project’s future activities are still unclear, you can enjoy this piece of Kyo’s creation with the opening of 2014.
We leave you with a quote by the man behind the magic himself, courtesy of Kyo’s Official Facebook:
“I just hope that you will be able to feel sukekiyo’s atmosphere and color just as it is from its disposable sound all in fun.”
