On the night of October 27th, xaa-xaa was heading back towards Tokyo after finishing a show in Osaka. While on the highway, they were involved in a traffic accident that caused injury to both staff and members. No one sustained life-threatening injuries, but they decided to cancel all upcoming shows until November 4th.
An updated statement revealed that investigation of the traffic accident is still under way, and that drummer An will be in recovery for a little while longer than originally planned. Here’s our translation of the official statement and member comments:
Thank you for your continuous support for xaa-xaa.
We sincerely apologize for the worry and inconvenience caused by our highway traffic accident on the night of October 27th.
Most members and staff have seen a doctor and have recovered, but our drummer An suffered a compression fracture that will require a minimum of two weeks of hospitalization.
As of now, the site investigation and post-processing have not been completed. We will inform you of the outcome once we know.
We may not be able to inform you until after next week, so for now, here are comments from each member.
Until we know the specifics of the situation, we won’t be able to tell you anything. That may take a long time. I’m sorry for making you worry. And for all the fans and those involved who were looking forward to our upcoming event and one-man shows, I’m really, really sorry.
I was taken to the hospital by ambulance and stayed there for four days, but I was discharged today.
I’ll devote myself to rehabilitation and doctors’ visits so that I can make my comeback as soon as possible.
First of all, I’m sorry it took us this long to tell you what’s been happening.
It’s been 4 days since the accident.
I suffered some whiplash and bruising, but not everyone was like me.
I’m sorry to everyone that was looking forward to our event lives and for making you worry.
I’ll do whatever I can do help us get back on our feet as soon as possible.
I want to see you all as soon as I can.
I’m sorry that our announcement came so late.
Due to this accident, we had no other choice but to cancel our upcoming shows. I apologize to all of our fans and those involved for causing such inconvenience.
Those who were injured are slowly recovering. Everyone is doing their best to be able to come back soon, so please continue to lend us your support.
I’m sorry that the news was delivered so late. I’m sorry to everyone that looked forward to the shows we had to cancel. The pain caused the accident has finally calmed down. But I need absolute peace to recover, so I’m doing my best to listen to the doctor’s orders so that I can continue on with the band. For now, I’ll do what I’m supposed to do so that I can make my comeback sooner.
While it’s a good thing that none of the members or staff sustained any life-threatening injuries, fans will surely worry about how quickly the members recover and whether their accident will have any serious repercussions. As we hear more updates on the band’s recovery and any upcoming shows, we’ll let you know.
