Site Renovations

Hello, readers!

As many of you may have noticed we went offline for several hours in the evening on Saturday (EST), and the result is… this! We’ve completely renovated the Shattered-Tranquility.net experience, beginning with our layout. Now, the site should be much easier to navigate, meaning you can find the latest, greatest news from your favorite corners of the visual kei industry even easier.

With these layout changes, we intend to change the way we’re writing, too — focusing smaller articles on single topics, so we can get news to you more quickly, and so you can find the specific information you’re looking for without wading through a bunch of text. Of course, we’ll continue bringing the best parts of our site to you on a regular basis, including our translations, breaking news, and even more live reports and interviews for the future.

We’re still working on fine-tuning the site, so please bear with us as minor changes continue to happen here and there. We welcome your feedback on these changes — and if you notice anything that’s glaringly broken, we’d love to hear from you. Just drop us a line in the comments, or contact us directly from the link on our navigation bar above!

As always, we want to thank you for being part of our readership that encourages and motivates us to keep finding ways to make the site better and more enjoyable for everyone. We hope you’re still enjoying the Shattered-Tranquility.net experience as we sail on towards our seventh year.

Thank you once again. Rock on!

Oh god.. I’m certain people will enjoy this, but… not me, everything looks unfamiliar, this is going to take a looong time to get used to.

It’s definitely a big change! But hopefully this will make content more accessible, and faster getting up on the site. I hope it grows on you!

It probably will at some point, don’t take my complaints too seriously.

If there were more people like me, we’d be stuck in medieval times 😛

Frankly said, I don’t like it.
It’s not just the fact, that everything looks unfamiliar, to me it’s mainly that I now have to check to every category for news.
Up to now I daily checked through what got added by just scrolling down to the post I already had seen the day before. It was easy to not miss a post this way.
I don’t like the thought of checking through all the categories (especially with no right-click option to open what might be interesting in a new tab, but I know that hasn’t been available in a long time) just to keep track of not overlooking some news.

I’ve been following this site for more than six years even though there are other sources that often are faster with news. However I always liked the accuracy of the translated information that could be found here, that’s why I always kept on following this site.
With the new changes I’m not sure, if I will do because of the above mentioned impractical way of looking through news. I’ll see how things work out for me.

I don’t know if this helps, but all you have to do to open in a new tab is press CTRL and click. There’s a latest posts feature, which will show you the most recent posts, and the ticker at the top will do the same. Another way to list articles is to click the date on the archives, that will make everything appear in a list, regardless of category, so you can enjoy content the same way as you did before!

We’re hoping with this new layout we will be able to get news out to you faster, instead of being bogged down by giant posts which were incredibly time consuming (and often overwhelming!) to write. This way we can be fast, as well as supply visual fans with accurate, thorough translations.

Thank you for your support over the years, and we hope that the new layout will grow on you.

Thank you for the hint with CTRL and clicking. I didn’t know this.
The way of clicking on the date will most likely be the best option for me, I think, at least, if you get up to more than five posts a day, because the latest posts feature shows the latest five ones. So I might end up with a mixture of both anyway.
However, this sounds like an option that will work.

I know that it takes a lot of time with those accurate posts, especially when they get longer, but one thing I always loved about Shattered Tranquility is member comment translations, if it was about disbandings, leaving a band etc. That’s what’s rarely to be found on other sites and the accuracy often is not given. So I hope you’ll stick to this.
Thank you for this work (I think I never said this in the past ^^).

Don’t worry, we definitely will never give up on the translations! It’s one area of the site that we really pride ourselves on!
We’ll look into seeing other ways to make the layout more easily accessible for all types of users, but I’m glad that the date option will help in the meantime.

No problem! Thanks for being with us for so long!

One small request I would recommend is to slow the ticker down, as well as the scrolling “breaking news” section. It’s hard for slower readers to read the titles before they flash over to the next four. I think you should probably double the time you have for the “breaking news” section before it flashes to the next news sections.
Another small request would be to increase the font size in the comment section (what I’m typing in right now). It’s incredibly small and very hard for me to read and I have my monitor wired through an HDMI cable at a large resolution.
I do like the cleaner look, but it’s going to take some time to get used to the new layout and it not looking like a blog.
