Marui One closes its doors
Marui One

“After September 25th, SHINJUKU MARUI ONE will close. The memories, the good, the bad — everything the customers have given us at this location has been wonderful. We would like it if you could leave your heartfelt messages on this board. Grateful for your patronage all these years, we will strive to give everyone enjoyable shopping experiences at the new location from here on as well.”

Opened in 1998, Marui One in Shinjuku has been one of the leading centers of alternative and visual kei fashion labels, a mall which has hosted big name brands such as Moi-meme-Moite, Atelier BOZ, alice auaa, h.Naoto, BABY, THE STARS SHINE BRIGHT, and countless others. Though Marui One is only a single mall in the renowned Marui group, it’s become well-loved among visual kei fans both domestic and abroad for its broad array of fashions.

However, after its 15-year run in Shinjuku, Marui One is closing shop. There is good news, though: this is the result of a renewal by the Marui group rather than the death of the mall and its brands. Consider that of the four Marui malls in Shinjuku, three will remain after renewal processes, and One will merge into them —
Marui Men, open September 19th, for customers “who want to always enjoy stylish clothing.”
Marui Honkan, also open September 19th, for men and women “to always and forever enjoy the everyday.”
Marui Annex, open October 5th, for “singles, couples, and even families to discover excitement.”

It seems that while most of Marui One’s shops will make it into Marui Annex, not every brand will make the cut. Fortunately, the Marui One website provides detailed information about all of your favorite brands for you to check on the status your favorites.

Marui One closes in approximately one week, on September 25th. Customers can currently stop by the 7th floor to leave the shops and staff their messages on paper murals.

Edited 9/17 at 6:10 PM EST: Not every Marui One store’s status is listed on the mall’s webpage. This list was posted on 8/31 and has remained unedited since that time. Any updates regarding unlisted stores have not been published, so unfortunately we do not have that information.

For the shops that will be moving, you can see detailed information about when and where they will open on Marui One’s website.

And for the closing stores, never fear — none of the companies which are closing stores will go under; all brands will be survived by other branches. Marui One has also provided information regarding alternate branches on their website:
