Sel’m, one of visual kei’s veteran bands, has announced their intentions to disband at the end of November. While specific reasons for the disbandment were not named, it seems to have been a mutual decision among members. Read our translation of the official announcement (translated by yours truly):
To all of our fans and those involved,
Thank you for your continuous support for Sel’m.
The members of Sel’m have been discussing each of our futures and lives since the end of last year.
As a result, we have decided that, following our November 28th performance at TSUTAYA O-WEST
Sel’m will put an end to all band activities and effectively disband.
It has been 12 years since we began.
In that long period of time, we have been able to reach the hearts of many with our music.
This is all thanks to the support of our fans, staff, friends, and family.
We truly cannot thank you enough.
We would also like to apologize for having to announce this troubling news in this manner.
There is only a short amount of time remaining until our last performance,
but we will enjoy the time we have left together to the fullest.
Please continue to support us until the final curtain falls.
Sel’m Ryuga, Tsubaki, Takuma, and MANJ”
Sel’m has been active since 2004. They took a brief activity pause in 2011 and returned full force in 2012. They’ve had a few member changes over the years: the addition of Nagi in 2008, the departure of both Nagi and vocalist Tora in 2011, the addition of vocalist Ryuga and guitarist John in 2012, and John’s departure in 2014.
Besides that, drummer MANJ” was diagnosed with Lumbar Disc Herniation back in 2013. It forced him out of commission a few times, and even underwent surgery for it around this time last year. S-T.net has been through it all with Sel’m.
Of course, it was the music that made fans stay. Sel’m’s discography boasts three full albums, several mini albums, and many more singles.
We know at least some of the members will continue on with music. After all, one of Sel’m’s former members, John, is currently in ZERO MIND INFINITY.
In any case, Sel’m’s presence will be sorely missed in the industry.
