D to go on Hiatus

d aug14

For all the VK bands that come and go in any given month, every once in a while an announcement will come that can change the very landscape of the scene itself. Unfortunately, it has come to pass that the year 2015 in the annals of visual kei history will be minus one very significant and long-lived band: D.

D announced their impending breakup at their live at Akasaka BLITZ this past Friday. The principle reason for this activity pause seems to be Asagi’s continuing health issues. We have included the band’s recent blog post explaining this development, English translation courtesy of Adventure Tim:

“We understand that our announcement yesterday may have come as a shock, and we apologize.

Believe us–we haven’t spent eleven and a half years running on through this world because we wanted to make you sad. No, we started making music because we wanted to see you smile–and for breaking up and abandoning that goal, we are truly sorry.

It pains me far further to know how we’ve disappointed you than to experience my worsening jaw illness which caused our cessation in the first place. Those faces that used to beam at us have suddenly become clouded, thanks to us.

If I could have had my way, I would have liked to stick by you for much, much longer. All of you beloved fellow members, fans, and affiliates. I would have liked to keep on singing D’s songs, keeping the journey alive.

I’ve always known somewhere in my heart that the end would have to come, but kept on pressing ahead to get just a little further into the future, so that D would stay with you in the foundations of your hearts. But I may have taken ‘mind over matter’ a little too far and started to neglect my body. So for the rest of this year, once I’ve used up all the energy I’ve got, I’ll lay low and recover so that I can come back and meet you all again someday. I believe that this is not the end.

We’re taking this hiatus in order that D might be able to keep on journeying with you even just a little bit longer. If you can find it in your hearts to forgive us, then we hope you’ll wait until the five of us come back together, in this rose garden known as D which we’ve striven to protect.

Some of the things you’ve said to us at the post-live handshake events have really resounded with me. I know some of you weren’t able to make it to our lives, but your thoughts have reached me all the same.

I’ve explained everything in more detail on our official website, so should any of you have the time I hope you’d be able to give it a look.

Singing brings me a happiness beyond any I’ve ever known. And out of all that happiness, the greatest joy I’ve found has been thanks to you, our fans. I hope I’ll be able to show you just how much love and gratitude I have for you. I pray that my wishes reach divine ears, and that our time together goes on forever, that we have years and years to run on through.

I love you all.

Thank you for each and every day.”
