It seems like only yesterday that we introduced ゼノ。(Xeno), a 5-member band that celebrated their first one-man in December 2013. Unfortunately, we already have to say goodbye to one of their members for good.
On July 7th, Xeno announced that, due to personal circumstances, guitarist Menou will leave the band on August 7th and retire from band activities altogether. This must come as both a shock and a disappointment to fans; the band just released their latest single 「ステラボーイに夢中」 (Stella Boy ni Muchuu) on May 28th, and things have only been looking up since then. So, why the sudden news? You can read the full translations of both the band’s official announcement and Menou’s personal comment below, thanks to our own bambi:
An important announcement from Xeno to all friends:
We are sad to announce that our rhythm guitarist, Menou, will be leaving us due to personal reasons after our show at Takadanobaba Area on August 7th. This was a difficult decision for Menou to have to make, and he only did so after carefully consulting with all of us. We apologise to all of our fans and friends and thank you for your support.
Menou was the one who brought us all together in the first place, and after a great deal of serious discussion amongst ourselves, we were adamant that we all wanted to keep it going. So, the four of us — Riku, Akane, Yuuhi, and Yuito — are still here, and we hope you’ll continue to support us.
Xeno and all staff
I know this is sudden, especially after going on on my blog, on Twitter, about how we’re on the up and up… and I’m really sorry. But I’m going to be leaving Xeno.
I’ve always loved the sort of music that’s always there for you, even through the tough times, the sad times. When I discovered visual-kei and threw myself into it, it brought all sorts of opportunities and choices, not all of them easy. Obviously it wasn’t all sunshine and roses. But then I met these four amazing guys and I made a decision. I decided that with them, I was going to make the most amazing band, one that people would take seriously.
Xeno has been something truly precious to me: my calling, my reason for being, my everything. But this time I’ve come up against a wall I can’t get around or through, and it’s just too hard for me to keep this going.
I’m not sure I can really tell you how I feel, in words. But I can tell you at our show at AREA on August 7th, which will be my last as Menou. As Menou, I will say goodbye to you, because I will then be retiring from music for good.
The last three years really have gone by in a flash, I’ve met so many amazing people, and I’ve loved every minute of it. Thank you, so much. I really am sorry. I want to do right by you to the end, as Menou, so I hope you won’t give up on me just yet.
July 7th, 2014
While Menou’s comment isn’t exactly enlightening, fans might be able to figure things out at his last show on August 7th. The show is actually one sponsored by Xeno themselves and takes place at Takanabobaba AREA. Tickets cost 3000yen advance, 3500yen same day. For information on the other participating bands and the rest of Xeno’s summer shows, check their OHP.
