As part of the 6th installment of DANGER CRUE’s J-Rock Explosion 2013 華麗なる激情-Splendid Violent Emotion- (Karei naru Gekijou -Splendid Violent Emotion-) concert series, perennially blond bassist YUKKE from MUCC will lead a star-studded session band under the moniker, Co’piryma Christi – a portmanteau of beloved first-generation visual band La’cryma Christi and “copy.”
This naming strategy is reminiscent of last July’s Karei naru Gekijou Vol. 3, also at LIQUIDROOM Ebisu, where MUCC vocalist Tatsurou, together with guitarists aie (ex-the studs; the god and death stars/highfashionparalyze) and hiro (te’), bassist Ray (ex-Fatima), and drummer KENZO (AYABIE), performed some of singer-songwriter YOSHII LOVINSON‘s songs under the name “COPY LOVINSON.”
YUKKE’s participation and the name of the session have been known for some time, as these details were announced at Karei naru Gekijou Vol. 5 in Osaka, but the rest of the lineup has been a mystery that was only just revealed.
Wait until you get a load of who is on deck this time around.
Along with YUKKE on bass, the session will feature DaizyStripper‘s Yuugiri on vocals, the FUZZ‘s Sae and ex-KYOKUTOU GIRL FRIEND‘s Ketch on guitars, and last but certainly not least, cali≠gari‘s Makoto Takei on drums. Considering the tremendous influence cali≠gari had on MUCC as a band, YUKKE himself must be quite thrilled to have a chance to work with his senior.
With such an eclectic mix of sounds and backgrounds, it’s difficult to imagine what exactly we can expect from this tribute; it seems unlikely that such a superb session would be nothing more than a standard cover band, the kind you see at a dive bar on Thursday nights, so we’ll just have to wait and see all they’ve got in store! Even if their set list is composed of covers, however, it’s sure to be something truly unique and a little bit twisted. MUCC, especially, has a history of paying homage to songs and artists by completely re-seasoning and redefining a track’s sound while maintaining the essence of the song, so under YUKKE’s leadership, Co’piryma Christi is destined to dazzle.
In addition to this top-tier session band, the July 27 showdown at LIQUIDROOM Ebisu will also feature Kameleo, DIV, LOST ASH, and R’evolv and Minus Jin-Say Orchestra, both of whom are event champions from previous iterations. The cryptic “and more” has at least this writer on the edge of her seat in anticipation, considering DANGER CRUE’s repertoire of hot bands. Regardless of what surprises they have in store, the announced lineup already promises the day-long concert event will be worth ten times the asking price.
