cali≠gari is celebrating their 20th anniversary in a bit of a different style.
cali≠gari, one of visual kei’s longest-running bands, has been through it all in the last 20 years. They went through numerous band member changes–seven, to be exact–until 2000, when vocalist Ishii Shuuji officially joined, and their line-up has remained the same ever since. A few breakups and hiatuses here and there brought them to where they are now, ready to celebrate their 20th “Caliversary” at Tokyo’s own Hibiya Yagai Dai-ongakudokoro. The show takes place on September 27th, and is officially titled “cali≠gari 20th Caliversary”2013-2014″ 最終公演 第7期終了 – To say Good bye is to die a little -” (Saishuu Kouen Dai 7 Ki Shuuryou).
As the title implies, this will mark the end of cali≠gari’s so-called 7th era. What are the other 6 eras? Well, they’ve had seven member changes since their formation, as stated above, and the departure of each member marked the end of an era. So, it’s possible that cali≠gari is ready to say goodbye to one of our beloved band members in order to say hello to a new one.
