The vocalist of Dir en grey and more recently sukekiyo, Kyo, hardly needs an introduction. Most, if not all, fans of visual-kei are familiar with Kyo’s legendary, haunting, and often times brutal vocal style. Those who have taken a shine to sukekiyo had the opportunity to purchase the band’s first DVD PERSUASIO as of June 10th.
Somewhat surprisingly, Kyo has branched out creatively from music into the realm of character creation. He is responsible for a gaggle of strangely scary-sweet characters he’s dubbed The Zemeckises. All of the characters have a relationship with another or more in some fashion, such as being siblings, and each has even been given their own individual Twitter accounts. These accounts have been rapidly gaining followers and popularity. So much so, in fact, that Kyo has collaborated with both Tower Records and LINE to give even more exposure to his little gang of creepy-cute riff-raff.
Both collaborations feature the ghostly, stitch-mouthed Penyu. Kyo has produced a series of stamps for use on the popular LINE app, available for purchase both in Japan and abroad.
Tower Records has printed Penyu on a series of goods iconic to the retailer in bright yellow and red in addition to other exclusive merchandise. Only select locations will be carrying these items (Shibuya, Shinjuku, Kyoto, Umeda NU) but all are listed as available via the Tower Records online store as well.
