Fans have been enjoying what they thought was to be DuelJewel‘s permanent return to the visual kei scene since their pause that lasted from 2012-2013, but unfortunately, that won’t continue for much longer.
DuelJewel has announced their intentions to disband on February 23rd, 2016, the final show of their approaching 47-prefectural tour. Vocalist Hayato has had a vocal cord condition that put him out of commission before temporarily, and now permanently. Read the band’s official announcement below (translated by yours truly):
On 02/23/2016 (Tue),
after the 47-prefectural TOUR Meet You FINAL performance at ZEPP TOKYO,
DuelJewel will close the curtain on our 19 years of band activities.
Vocalist Hayato has endeavored to recover from his throat condition since 2011.
However, since we cannot foresee a full recovery, it would be difficult
to continue on with band activities.
Of course, the strong will of Hayato along with the other members
to continue on with activities always hasn’t changed, but when faced with reality,
this is the best decision in the minds of the 5 members.
We sincerely apologize for this sudden announcement,
and all members are grateful to all of our fans, staff, and those involved.
Our one-man tour begins with our performance on 7/22 (Wed) at Shizuoka Sunash.
The members will tackle it together as one, so please lend us your support until the end.
Hayato, Shun, Yuya, Natsuki, Baru
DuelJewel has been together since 1997, with only that pause in 2012 on their record. Though their 19th anniversary may be a sad one, they should be commended for having overcome so much in the past what will be 19 years.
Stay on the look out for member comments and more details on that final show in 2016.
