In 2015, Acid Black Cherry released their latest album 「L－エル－」. The album–which rose to Oricon chart popularity in Japan upon its release–was originally composed and written based on an original story centering around its main character, L. Her struggles, her triumphs, her losses, and her love are portrayed within the album’s melodies and lyrics.
In Fall 2015, the emotionally-charged story garnered enough interest to be released as a series of novels published by KADOKAWA. Now, production for a cinematic version of L’s story is set to be released in Japan this fall.
The movie, also titled 「Lーエルー」, stars actress Alice Hirose as L. She has starred in numerous TV series and movies in Japan since 2010. The movie is currently still in its filming stages.
Yasu left this comment on the movie’s official website (translated by yours truly):
I was approached by interested producers at Toho who told me, “We really want to make L into a movie.” They attended many of the shows on our nationwide release tour, and it inspired them even more to create this movie.
I put a lot of hard labor into creating L. Seeing how it reaches people’s hearts and how it inspires new projects like this makes me realize how much this work has become a standalone creation.
L was born in Acid Black Cherry, but I’m looking forward to seeing how Toho, Director Shimoyama, and Alice Hirose help this story continue to develop and fluorish.”
Stay tuned for more updates on the movie!
