Flashback Friday: HYBRID-ZOMBIEZ

It’s been a while, but we’re back with another installment of Flashback Friday. This week’s featured band isn’t from all that long ago, but you might be interested to see where all of the members ended up. We bring you the female-fronted band: HYBRID-ZOMBIEZ.

HYBRID-ZOMBIEZ formed some time in 2003 and disbanded three years later in June 2006 with a brief activity pause in between. Despite a few member changes, the Nagoya-based band managed to release one mini-album and one live-distributed single.

In March 2004, despite having just started band activities earlier in 2003, HYBRID-ZOMBIEZ went on a brief activity pause following the departures of guitarist Yumehito and drummer Yuuki. Luckily, they picked themselves right back up and restarted activities in September of the same year. They welcomed drummer Sencho to the band and stuck with their remaining guitarist, Hisui. This lineup remained until their disbandment in 2006.

It was in 2005 that HYBRID-ZOMBIEZ was in their prime. They played Nagoya Music Farm at an unusually regular rate – exactly once a month until August. They continued to play shows almost exclusively in Nagoya, and in October, they signed with enter brain to release their first and only mini-album “the interior of the womb”. They celebrated with a special live event at Nagoya HOLIDAY. That venue became their HQ for live activities from then on, especially since bassist HISAYOSHI was a frequent contributor to HOLIDAY’s blog. Unfortunately, it wasn’t long after this that HYBRID-ZOMBIEZ ultimately disbanded on June 29th, 2006 with a farewell final at Nagoya ell.FITS ALL.

Though HYBRID-ZOMBIEZ may not have left much physical evidence of their musical capabilities behind, most of the members play an active part in the visual kei or rock scene today. Vocalist Hari is the vocalist of Nagoya-based Rabbit MOB. Hisui changed his stage name to Yuusuke a mere month after H-Z’s dissolution and joined the ranks of lynch. HISAYOSHI went on to participate in several bands, but as of now, he is the bassist of Fuel Pumps. Yumehito is probably most recognized as the vocalist of AYABIE, though fans may be surprised now to find that he has switched back to guitar as a member of the newly-formed band KAKASHI. Unfortunately, both drummers Sencho and Yuuki seem to have disappeared into obscurity.

Recognize any faces, readers? Were you ever a fan of HYBRID-ZOMBIEZ? Though they might not have been the hottest thing in the 2003-2006 visual kei scene, the band undoubtedly served as a starting point for many great musical careers that still continue on today.
