Boy, there sure has been a lot happening this week! Injuries left and right, the unfortunate loss of Moi dix Mois’ guitarist from the visual kei community, and BORN and Lycaon‘s European tour announcement. But you know what, folks? I, for one, would never have known about it if it weren’t for social media!
Since social networking sites (SNS) like Facebook, Twitter, Ameblo, Tumblr, etc. have gained popularity, artists in the v-kei industry have been using them as tools for both promotion and communication. They not only allow bands to announce mini-updates in real time, but can also act as more direct lines of communication between band and fan (if you’re one of those awesome band members who responds to fans’ messages!).
SNS in the v-kei scene is pretty much a requirement now; if you don’t have an official website, a Twitter account, or an Ameblo account, it’s like, “What are you even doing here??” The rare, mysterious band member will choose not to have a Twitter or Ameblo, but at least one member will have one, or at least a staff account–oops, Ern’s ramblin’ again. You get my point, though. Not to mention that without SNS, us overseas fans would pretty much be left in the dark, am I right?
So, with that said, here are this week’s discussion topics:
To what extent do you think social networking sites (SNS) have become vital to the visual kei scene? Which bands or artists use it the most efficiently? The most creatively? Who do you wish made better use of SNS?
When answering, don’t forget the ground rules:
- Be respectful of others’ opinions. If you disagree with someone, please respectfully say so instead of starting a fight.
- Come back every week to answer the new question!
- Share the question of the week with all your pals!
