After consulting with a number of esteemed doctors, it has been determined that X JAPAN’s leader and drummer Yoshiki will undergo emergency surgery on May 16th, 2017.
The drummer has been known for his neck and wrist problems — frequently wearing a neck brace during live performances — since he was diagnosed with cervical foraminal stenosis in 2009. He has undergone surgery before for the same condition. However, after suffering from a herniated disc that has worsened over the past half year, he has been experiencing numbness and paralysis in his left hand and arm. His busy worldwide schedule hasn’t left him much time to rest, either.
Doctors have determined that these symptoms could worsen to the point where they interfere not only with Yoshiki’s rock star life, but also with his daily life. He will undergo emergency artificial disc replacement surgery on May 16th in Los Angeles.
Yoshiki’s upcoming shows (including X JAPAN’s World Tour starting in July, We Are X, and Yoshiki’s Premium Dinner Show), are undergoing discussion as to whether they will be rescheduled, canceled, or held as scheduled. Stay tuned for updates on his recovery and shows!
