At the end of April, Dangan NO LIMIT had a disappointing announcement for fans. Following their last one-man show on August 18th, the band will break up due to bassist Chika’s departure from the music industry. Find out why in our translation of the official announcement and member comments below (translated by yours truly):
Thank you for your continuous support for Dangan NO LIMIT.
We have an important announcement.
Following our one-man show on August 18th (Fri) at TSUTAYA -WEST—”THE BULLET”–Dangan NO LIMIT will disband.
Since January 2014, we have stepped into band activities.
However slowly we may have gone, we have been able to receive support from all of our fans and those involved.
Our one-man show in February at TSUTAYA O-WEST was a huge success. We were thinking of nothing but how we would move forward with the band.
However, our bassist Chika has become unable to continue with musical activities due to family circumstances.
We accepted his wish to retire from the band. After discussing the matter with both members and staff, we ultimately decided that Dangan NO LIMIT wouldn’t be the same without Chika, after all we’ve overcome together.
We truly apologize for how sudden this news may be, but we will keep playing until the end with our best effort,
so we ask that you continue to give us your support.
I was never very good at expressing myself in words.
I’m not sure if it was due to nerves,
but I could never get the words to come out if I was standing in front of other people. I really disliked that about myself.
Looking back on it, I can’t recall many good memories of talking in front of others.
But because I love singing and I love being on stage, I made it this far.
With my band members, we were able to overcome everything together, no matter how small. That meant everything to me.
I dealt with a lot of challenges.
Every time I faced a new challenge, I had Leo, Chika, and Yusuke to help me out.
We faced everything head on. This wasn’t just a hobby or fooling around for us.
It was all to protect Dangan NO LIMIT.
But it wasn’t just the band members that protected the band.
Our staff, our fellow bandmen, and above all, all of you were there.
When I look back, I feel like I’ve received a lot more than I’ve given.
I’m being completely honest when I say we wanted to keep going.
That’s why we’re going to give all we’ve got so that we don’t leave behind any regrets.
I’ll continue to improve myself.
Let’s all continue to shoot our own targets until the end.
It was days after the 2/18 O-WEST one-man that Chika told us of his intentions to retire.
Personally, I wasn’t sure to do, since at the time all I was thinking about was the band’s next step.
We met with Chika a number of times, and we met without Chika even more times
We considered the option of continuing on with just the 3 of us, but we ultimately decided to disband.
Honestly, there are still a lot of things I wanted to do.
I even promised to bring you all to a bigger stage at the O-WEST show in February.
I’m sorry I can’t keep that promise. It really upsets me that I can’t keep it.
I wanted Dangan NO LIMIT to be the band I continued for the rest of my life with the same members.
I think Miyuu, Yusuke, and Chika felt the same.
But we felt that if even one of us left, we wouldn’t be able to go on. That’s why we decided what we did.
I think we were all worried about Chika even before he announced his intention to leave.
I want to send off the dream we created together for over 3 years.
I want to make the last show with Miyuu, Yusuke, and Chika the best one I can,
so I’m going to put in all of my effort and energy into every show until the end.
I’ll express my deepest wishes and thoughts through music.
I’m truly happy that I was able to play guitar and make songs with Dangan NO LIMIT.
I’m sorry we couldn’t save the band for longer.
And, to everyone – thank you so much.
I’m sorry this is so sudden.
Honestly, we went through a lot of trying times in this band.
But we overcame everything together, becoming like a family. Now I love this band.
I didn’t want to quit. I didn’t want to stop.
But we just couldn’t choose the option to continue Dangan NO LIMIT with someone other than Chika.
I hope you can give us your support until the very end.
First off, I want to apologize to everyone that has supported us.
I’m quitting music on August 18th.
My circumstances at home have made it impossible to continue on with Dangan NO LIMIT,
and after thinking and worrying on it, I decided to quit music altogether.
Considering everyone that has loved Dangan, or come to love me, or how much I’ve come to love and continue on in this band in return, it would be a lie to say I’m quitting with absolutely no regrets.
But after considering all of my options, this is the only choice I could see for myself.
So with that remaining regret in mind, I’m going to etch these memories with these members and all of our supporters over the past 3 and a half years into my heart.
I hope the memories of me playing bass will remain in your memories for years to come.
Thank you for everything.
Lastly, I want to make the best memories ever with these last 4 months with Dangan.
In the 3 years that Dangan NO LIMIT has been together, they have put out a grand total of 4 singles, 2 mini-albums, and have featured on a number of Riostar Records DVDs. The title of their last show corresponds with their latest single, “BULLET.”
Dangan NO LIMIT’s last show will take place at Shibuya TSUTAYA O-WEST on August 18th. If you’re interested in getting tickets, check out details on their official site.
