Review: DECAYS "Veludo no Tori"

It’s not necessary to be familiar with Die‘s (DIR EN GREY) work to understand that 「ビロードの鳥」(Veludo no Tori) is a compositional piece of art. “Veludo no Tori” accomplishes bringing a sense of nostalgia to its listeners while incorporating many surprising but refreshing elements into the song.

The song opens up with drums and a soothing rhythm guitar part. Die’s command of lyrics are highlighted in the song, as “Veludo no Tori” is sung entirely in English by Die, with fellow members Chidony and G. Terrance lending their voices to create vocal harmony. Heavy guitar riffs and a melody played by violinist Ayasa can also be heard throughout the song.

As “Veludo” progresses, these elements are interwoven together to give the song greater complexity and depth. It all comes together during the climax of the song which delivers the ultimate satisfaction to listeners. “Veludo” provides insight into exactly what DECAYS’ lineup is capable of—compelling and complex music that is sure to please your ears.

“Veludo” is currently only available at DECAYS concerts in Japan, but there is a possibility that the track will be included on a future digital or album release. Look forward to it!

This is another good review, I hope you will continue to do more, too. Also, it may not be such a bad idea to do reviews by request. Personally I’d like to see one from Lin (current lineup, any release), if it’s possible.

You are welcome! Cool; then I’ll keep an eye out for a review of LIN (“Dedicate to Graveyard” is an interesting track. I recommend you to check it out if you haven’t yet). Keep up the good work!
