exist†trace had a great year in 2013: they began with a one(wo)man; they performed live at A-Kon for the third time; their 2012 concert, “Just Like a Virgin,” was screened in LA during Anime Expo and again, globally, on NicoNico; they expanded their offerings on iTunes; they ran in an “election”; and they were featured on an anime network. And somewhere in the middle of all that, they managed to release a special limited single, DIAMOND.
Phew! You’d think they’d be keen to take a bit of a break in 2014, right? You couldn’t be more wrong! Already, exist†trace has opened up an international fan club, and now, they’ve announced a new single and revealed a new look to accompany it – and the ladies are dazzling!
The new single, Spiral Daisakusen, will drop May 14th and include three tracks. Including tax – and since the release is in May, this is based on the new sales tax, effective April 1st – , the single will cost ¥1300. Unlike DIAMOND, there’s no word to suggest this single will be limited to any one retailer, but so far, it’s not yet available for pre-order anywhere, and whether or not there will be multiple editions or a PV is still up in the air. We’ll be sure to update you when the information is confirmed!
In the meantime, the following blurb about the single was posted on exist†trace’s homepage:
Something’s different about our newest release!?
POW! We’ve updated our look, too!!
This new release displays – ta-da!! – the members’ hidden playfulness.
To the point, the title is Spiral Daisakusen.
[Does it open the door to] a disco world focusing on ’80s dance tunes!?
Through sheer force of will, we tackled this release with the utmost sincerity and playful hearts!
Indeed, their costumes really follow a gothy-disco theme, with plenty of sparkles balanced by leather and rings. Vocalist Joe’s sequined jacket evokes a disco ball, and everybody seems to be rockin’ wicked platform pumps or block heels.
Perhaps the songs, too, will have that late ’70s, early ’80s vibe, a la Donna Summer or the Bee Gees. Notably, there is a resurgence of music incorporating disco themes even in the West, with artists like Daft Punk, Bruno Mars, and Justin Timberlake all trying their hand at it, so exist†trace is definitely staying on top of current trends.
As for the single, the details we have are below, and we’ll fill in the blanks – like album art and where to buy – as the information filters in, so stay tuned!

I am loving these looks, especially Joe’s and Omi’s! Those shoes Joe’s wearing, I would probably chase somebody down the street to find out where they’re from. I’m really looking forward to a dance-y single, too. What do you think?
