Ask Ernie: Is D still with Smile Company?

Ernie is always delighted to receive and answer questions! So make sure you keep sending them in! Your name will likely not be mentioned (especially if you don’t want it to be) so don’t be shy! Shattered-Tranquility is here for the fans and if you’re wondering about something, you can bet there are others who are doing the same!

Onto the newest question!

Q: Is D still with Smile Company or have they moved completely to Avex Trax?

A: This was definitely a tough one — everything on the internet except for ASAGI’s journal points to SMILE COMPANY. However, on February 27th ASAGI posted a ridiculously long entry in his journal where he talked about various things. In relation to the question, he posted 「メジャーデビューのレコード会社が「avex trax」に決定しました!」 Which directly states that they’ve decided that their major debut will be with avex trax.

He also said that right now, D is doing their tour and facing towards their major debut in the spring, so they’ve been having meetings, writing songs, making decisions and are actively working hard at promoting the band.

He mentions that they had a meeting with SMILE COMPANY, and through that were able to meet the record company, avex trax. With avex trax having charge over the band, they are able to become a major band and have their first release while being able to convey the music and image that they want to. ASAGI says that more than it just being a fad, he’d have to say that to some extent he feels that they’ll still have their old style.

ASAGI also mentions that he wants the band to be looked at as more than just a visual band, which pretty much explains their reason for going major. He wants tons of people to hear their songs. And he expects there to be people that will spread rumours and be malicious towards them going major, but he (and it seems like) the rest of the band are happy about the decision and happy with the change.

It’s almost a relief to know that they still plan to be D, and it seems that the label change was so that they could keep who they really are, with their present image and outlooks and not have to change their style to fit any sort of mold, which really is a big step as a lot of visual bands seem to throw the style and image they’ve worked hard to develop away as soon as they hit the big leagues. (And who knows, it could be because they truly want to, or because they feel that they need to).

Anyways, hopefully that answers the question and clears up any confusion!
No websites that we’ve come across have updated the label information for the band, but it was only announced about a week ago and due to the medium of the announcement (ASAGI’s journal) and the ridiculous length of the post, it seems like many people might just not be aware of the change yet.

July 18th, 2013 Edit – Since this question was first answered in 2008, D have changed labels a couple of times! They were with avex from May 2008 until June 2011, and then they moved over to GOD CHILD RECORDS. As of August 28th, 2013, they’ll be moving once again, to Victor Entertainment.
