On August 23rd and 24th, Joetsu city (Niigata) will hold their 89th Annual Kenshin Festival in celebration of the revered Sengoku-period daimyo, Uesugi Kenshin. Known for his prowess on the battlefield, Kenshin has been depicted in Japanese popular culture in the form of video games, films, and manga. One of the most famous of these depictions is the 2007 NHK drama, Fuurin Kazan, in which none other than GACKT played the role of the great daimyo.
Joetsu has announced their intention to invite GACKT as a guest in this year’s Kenshin Festival. The musician also participated in last year’s festival (as shown in the picture above); if the he accepts Joetsu city’s invitation, it will be his 6th time making an appearance in the event overall. Naturally, the star’s popularity attracts quite the crowd at this growing city’s event.
Once the invitation has been sent, the next step will be to communicate with GACKT’s management to work out an agreement. If you’re planning on being in the Niigata area sometime this August, stay tuned with S-T as we continue to follow the development of this exciting historical festival!
