Some urgent news from MoNoLith today. It seems their drummer, HAYATO, was hospitalized due to a retinal detachment. As a result, he is taking time off to recover and a support drummer will take his place.
He left this message on this official blog (credit for translation goes to Ku):
I apologize for the sudden announcement.
I’m hospitalized in ophthalmology now.
Since I noticed it yesterday morning I went straight to the hospital and today starting at 4pm I’ll have emergency surgery.
Everything was so fast I can’t really wrap my head around it,
And at the time it was so crappy I told the doctor, “I can’t be hospitalized. I have lives!”
But the bottom line is, my choice was lives or eyesight.
I was told it’s urgent, it’s urgent — and it was at about that point I knew it was that level of severity.
My retinal detachment isn’t because of contact lenses.
A hole opened up on the other side of my eye and it didn’t even hurt so when I noticed, half of my retina was already detached.
The cause was said to likely be due to allergies. Since I did have allergic asthma recently, too. So it’s a unique [case].
Now there’s no light in the upper half of my left eye, and my field of vision is narrow and dim.
In short, the lower half of my retina isn’t functioning.
Why didn’t I notice until now, until it was like this?
It’s my own fault, but it took some time to notice there was an effect on my vision, and I really didn’t know.
I’m considering whether or not I would know if I’d gone to the ophthalmologist.
More than anything, I’m sorry to all the fans, staff, my friends, coworkers, and members for the trouble.
Since honestly it seems I’ve largely neglected today’s surgery so I’m scared and it seems after the surgery things will be serious.
Today they’ll put air in my left eye. I hope it’s a success.
I don’t know if my vision will be what it was before, and being unable to move around energetically after I leave the hospital will be tough.
Even if it takes a while, I’m looking forward to being able to see everyone again in good shape.
I’ll strive to recover quickly.
So please allow me to rest from band activity for a little while; I’m sorry. I’ll definitely return to the place I love
And please give MoNoLith’s lives all your strength from here out.
The support drummer I’m leaving the band to is a wonderful person.
Pray that today’s surgery’s a success!
I’ll report on my condition again. Thank you for all the messages
Okay, I’m going to go prepare for battle! I’ll borrow your power!
I’ll recover the light so I can see everyone’s smiles again!
Staff also posted about it as an official announcement on his blog:
