I agree with Nathalie, they are probably changing the band’s theme/vibe as well as the name. That would make the most sense to me.

I haven’t looked into it at all, but he left back in August… that seems like a really long time to hang on if that was the sole reason.

maybe they just wanted to have a very clear cut. that this is not branch with another name but a complete new band ^^
