Kiyoharu Rocks Osaka -- For 9 Straight Hours

Kiyoharu

There are quite a few bands and live houses with end-of-the-year traditions. It seems Kuroyume- and SADS-vocalist Kiyoharu’s annual tradition is playing a live at Namba Hatch in Osaka at the end of the year. He’s not the only one known for this kind of show, though; for instance, BUCK-TICK has a habit of playing at Budokan close to the new year. So what makes his performances stand out? — Every year, Kiyoharu plays a longer set list than the previous year, not not just by a song or two. The fact that this tradition entered its tenth year at the end of 2013 means that the set list was considerably long.

69-tracks long, to be exact.

On December 30th, Namba Hatch started rocking at 6:00 PM with Kiyoharu’s end-of-the-year show, “13 FINAL.” Nine hours later the show was over, after concert-goers experienced a staggering 69-song set list. The renowned vocalist has said that he plans to discontinue this tradition beyond 2013 and wanted to make the show, as he does each year, even more impressive than the last. Speaking of the “12 FINAL” gig that took place in 2012, 64 songs were played over a period of 7 hours, which came to a close at 2:00 AM. 2013 blew that record out of the water.

In addition to the announcement that 2013 would be the last year to see one of his impressive shows at Hatch, Kiyoharu had another announcement. Barks quoted the musician as saying, “The next show at Budokan will be the last for Kuroyume.”

So, no more Namba Hatch music marathons, and no more Budokan performances. Perhaps the ever-active musician is looking to settle into a quieter life.
