Back in September 2017, chariots updated their website with an announcement that explained that guitarist KAZ had been unwell. He was told by doctors that he shouldn’t continue with band activities. Without knowing the state of his health, the name of his illness, or even his whereabouts, chariot members were thereafter unable to get into contact with him again.
For a while, the band seemed to get along with support members while they waited to hear from KAZ. However, in October, they made an announcement again saying that since they have still been unable to get into contact with their guitarist, they had decided to dismiss him from the band lineup.
At this point, chariots had a few options: find a new guitarist, keep playing on with support members, go on hiatus, or disband. You’ve probably already guessed by the title of this article what decision they went with. Here’s the official announcement (translated by yours truly):
Thank you for your continuous support for chariots.
In 2016, we started up the band again. In November 2017, we put things on hold again.
After the loss of one of our members, we tried our best to go on as 37564-Minagoro-. We had meetings upon meetings and searched endlessly for a new member, but it wasn’t enough to help us start back up again. We feel that continuing chariots with a support member compromises chariots itself, and so we find ourselves unable to keep going.
In conclusion, we will continue on with our schedule as planned until April 22, 2018, when we will disband.
We’ve kept going through these hard times thanks to your support, and so we offer our sincerest apologies for the decision we’ve made.
We only have a bit of time left, but we’d like to use every ounce of our strength and spirit to play our music for you.
chariots’ activity pause that began in November marked the third in the band’s history since they formed in 2007. They’ve also seen their fair share of member departures; in 2010, all members but the vocalist packed their bags (or instrument cases, you could say).
We’re not sure what that says about frontman Riku‘s personality, but the fact remains that he is the only original member left. And we do know that there had to have been some pretty dedicated fans for him to survive all of that. If you’re one of those fans, don’t miss your chance to see them one last time.
