Osaka-based Shellmy left fans with a disappointing announcement at the end of 2015. On January 30th, Shellmy will officially go on hiatus due to the departure of two members. Read the official announcement below, translated by yours truly:
An Important Announcement from Shellmy
After our Umeda zeela show on 1/30, Ba. nao and Dr. Yuu will leave the band.
As a result, we’ve made the sudden decision to enter a hiatus on the same date.
There are a few reasons for each member’s departure, and it’s difficult to continue on after such a loss.
Shellmy’s performances scheduled after 1/30 will be performed by Vo. Hyo and Gt. Yuga in a limited-time unit band.
We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this sudden news.
Shellmy hasn’t had the smoothest band career. Shortly after they started band activities in Summer 2013, they lost bassist Rion. He was replaced by bassist nao less than two months later. They went through another big change when guitarists Yuga and Anji changed places: Yuga became lead guitar and Anji switched to rhythm guitar. Anji ultimately decided to quit in December 2014.
Now, with the looming departure of both nao and Yuu, it seems like the band is done dealing with the turmoil. Their last show will take place on January 30th at Umeda Zeela. They’ll be playing alongside ZON, Mekakushi, and THE GALLO. Tickets are 3500yen advance, 4000yen same day.
